Executive Coaching Helps Leaders Prepare for Change
Change is messy, disruptive and unexpected. But the unfortunate reality is that in business today, change is also never-ending. In many instances, this change is also transformational.
Transformational change is profound. It requires hard work, persistence and vigilance. It is dramatic and emotional, invigorating and frightening.
This constant change, change that must sometimes be transformational, has a profound impact on our organizations and the people that lead them. Successfully leading their organization through change is imperative for every 21st-century business leader.
Are you ready? Our executive coaching process can help you prepare.
Is Executive Coaching Right for You?
The following list will help you determine whether you are ready for executive coaching:
- Are you clear about your own strengths and weaknesses? Coaching and the assessment activities that are included in the process can help you clarify where you stand and uncover your blind spots.
- Are your goals for your own leadership somewhat vague and therefore hard to act on? Our coaches can help you clarify your goals and make them actionable.
- Are you getting exactly the results you want from your organization currently or would you like to do better? People who benefit the most from executive coaching are ambitious and want to stretch and grow. They are not satisfied with the status quo.
- Are you willing to put in the work? To benefit from executive coaching, you must be willing to identify and put aside your natural defenses, which means you must be willing to live with some discomfort throughout the coaching process.
- Are you willing to take some risks? To get a sound return on the coaching investment, you will need to try out some new ways of thinking and behaving. Growth is never easy but it is truly rewarding!
Where Are You In Your Personal Change Journey?
The following questions will help you determine the nature of the coaching that you need. Personal readiness for change isn’t an either/or proposition: either you are ready, or you are not. Change occurs in stages. A coach can serve as your guide as you move through the stages. Where do you see yourself in the following change-related stages?
Stage 1: You recognize the need for change but you aren’t sure exactly what it means for you. Your coach can help you achieve greater clarity on your growth goals as well as your goals for your organization.
Stage 2: You are aware of some, if not all, of the changes that you suspect you and your organization need to make. Yet you are ambivalent about the changes because you recognize the pros and cons involved. Your coach can help you work through this very natural ambivalence and make decisions that feel right for you.
Stage 3: You have resolved your ambivalence, know what you want to change both personally and organizationally, and need assistance in planning. Your coach can assist you in creating your growth plan both for yourself and for your organization.
Stage 4: You have a plan and are ready to execute it. Your coach can support your changes by leading you through discussions and activities that will promote your growth.
Stage 5: You are already well on your way to the personal transformation that you desire. However, you need an objective third party to serve as your confidant to challenge you and check your progress. Your coach can fill this role.
Of course, you may not fit neatly into one of these stages. That would be very natural because personal transformation is not a linear process. And that’s OK: our coaches meet you where you are.
