Case Study: Collaboration
Founded on the principles of collective impact in 2012, the Flint Genesee Literacy Network had cemented its role as a convener and coordinator of literacy programs of every stripe. However by 2018, after six years of impressive growth and influence, the powerful and influential network had reached a turning point of purpose, process, membership and scope. They saw this moment as an opportunity to gain better strategic clarity, examining who they wanted to serve, and how.
From the summer of 2018 to the early winter of 2019, Miller Consultants had the privilege of partnering with the steering committee and leaders of this innovative multigenerational literacy program based in Flint, Michigan. Our work with the network was designed to help clarify the future for a remarkable group of community activists and a very successful suite of literacy programs.
Through the summer and autumn of 2018, Miller worked with the steering committee, the leaders, the staff and the stakeholders of the network, re-examining the needs of the community and clarifying the strengths and capacities of the network and its staff. This was a deep process, looking at opportunities and issues large and small, and led to much greater clarity of both purpose and action for the network. The network team was able to focus in on specific steps that would make the greatest difference in the community and clarify their unique and crucial role.
This project, with this remarkable organization, was among the most satisfying work that Miller has had the pleasure to be involved in.
